In the dystopian society envisioned by Aldous Huxley in Brave New World, young citizens are conditioned to fear harmful objects and occurrences through exposure to unnerving stimuli. The DocuDrama performed by Park City High School students and city officials last week adheres to a similar philosophy. Two wrecked cars bathed in eerie red police lights behind the sophomore parking lot surrounded students. Firemen eviscerated a vehicle to free another trapped actor.

It is no secret, at least to students at Park City High School, that the Park City School District is proposing a budget overhaul which includes five million dollar cuts. Tension was palpable last week as course registration became a loyalty oath to favorite teachers and programs. Students and teachers alike desperately vied to save the educational opportunities that make our high school a premier academic institution. The effects of cuts can already be felt.

It is no secret to college-bound students across the world that the price of continuing education is more expensive than ever, and is continuing to rise. With an average of a 5% increase every year in tuition alone, college is slowly becoming an unattainable goal for more and more middle and lower class families. Paying for college is strenuous--but most people don’t realize that the cost of getting into college has become a burden as well.

The Sundance Film Festival is once again coming to our cozy town and bringing hordes of tourists with it. Between crowded busses, scarcity of parking spaces, and ostentatious fur coats, Sundance is certainly a breath of a different kind of air. For many Park City residents, Sundance brings fun and excitement, to others it means breathing car exhaust and cigarette smoke.

Tourists will pay exorbitant prices for food and lodging during Sundance. They’ll even pay $500 for a high school parking pass, but ambitious students are barred from selling them.
Park City High School students have recently attempted to market access to their parking lot independently, through services such as ksl.com. The school administration responded with a sudden crackdown, asserting that they posses the exclusive right to sell passes to independent buyers.
What does occupation have to do with Wall Street?

Several weeks ago, one man set up his tent on the Rugby field in City Park to speak out against corporate greed. He represents the Occupy Wall Street movement: the quintessential tale of American individualism and initiative. Patriotic Americans can relax; the economy might be trashed, but the democratic system in America is still strong. Those corporate fat cats will quail at the sight of... one tent.
I thought Creative Writing was supposed to be creative

Every Park City High School student needs 1.5 art credits to graduate. The available art classes include dance, music, drama, film, and, of course, visual art. Some students easily fill the required art credit, but for others it’s more of a struggle. Many students would rather take classes relevant to their interests, instead of sitting through an art class that they are not engaged in. To support these students with unique interests, Creative Writing should count as a fine arts credit.
Equality in sports

Let’s all try to remember how many games the football team has won this year so far. In case you’re having trouble, the answer is one. Here are some facts: a football uniform costs close to a thousand dollars this year, and admission of three to five dollars is charged at each game all for a desperate chance for even a narrow Park City victory - only to be let down again. The only victory for football was an arrogant showcase of talent that we do not really have on Homecoming against a team with an equally abysmal record. Go Miners.
The Jostens Scam

Every year, Jostens comes up from American Fork to Park City High School to market their overly-expensive graduation products to students. They target the vulnerable sophomores and the excited seniors, hoping to play into their emotions for trinkets that, honestly, will never be of any value to the students who purchase them.
