Schedule changes for Sundance

Each year, as January rolls around, Park City High School gets ready for the onslaught of tourists and traffic. Park City High School recognizes this every year and starting Thursday, January 19th though Friday, January 27th, students will be released at 2:15 instead of 2:25. Buses will no longer pick up in the front, but line up in the back of the school.
“Every student knows that once Sundance hits, we get out 10 minutes early. Hey, it might be only 10 minutes but I’ll take it!” said Junior Logan Baltzan.
Not every student is so optimistic about the traffic.
“Every local knows that a commute that would have taken 5 minutes will soon take 20 minutes, if they are anywhere near town,” said Junior Katy Greene. “If you need to get somewhere or even if you just want to get home, it’s definitely a pain.”
The 10-minute change will not affect any other class but 4th period, allowing students more time.
“I love it but sometimes ten minutes still isn’t enough. I have swim team practice right after school and getting there on time is really important,” said Junior Garrett Jensen. “Our coach gets really mad if we are only a little late.”
Teachers who have classes 4th period are less enthused than most students.
“Sometimes I just need that extra 10 minutes to finish up a lesson or get extra assignments or details to the students. It isn’t that big of a deal but it’s just a little annoying at times,” said English teacher Kelly Yeates.
Overall, the small changes that are made every year for Sundance only affect the high school for one week and hardly take away from the learning being done.
